Many people these days are suffering from mental and physical diseases. Some of them blame their genes for being predisposed to some illnesses. Others blame the circumstances for being overexposed to high levels of stress. Exposure to too much stress can lead to anxiety. Stress and anxiety are the most common reason why people visit their doctor’s clinic. Today, many people fail to realize that an anxiety-free life is something that is mostly within our control. If you want to improve your health and your tolerance against anxiety and stress, read further:↓
1.  Healthy Eating
Food is what fuels our mind and body to function properly. Unfortunately, some people easily give in to the temptations of modern living. They keep fueling their bodies with fast food and other chemically processed foods. These foods can no doubt fuel one’s body…temporarily. And, its adverse effects would sometimes last a lifetime. This is why people must be wise enough to choose those nutritious foods. Make it a habit to eat whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, fish and lean meat. These are the kind of foods that will prevent you from the disruptive effects of stress and anxiety. Eat more of these nutritious foods to improve your physical and mental health.
2. Healthy Drinking
Water is another essential thing for healthy living. The vital organs of our body need water to function well. Our body does not need any other costly beverages such as sodas, beer and other carbonated drinks. It is sad to know that some people’s body nowadays constantly thirsts for water – plain water. Plain water is more accessible, cheaper and healthier than any other beverages that people buy. Even mild dehydration is already enough to make one’s body suffer from chemical imbalance. This chemical imbalance can make people suffer from anxiety and depression that could lead to some other serious diseases.
3.  Enough Sleep
When you deprive yourself of enough sleep you are also depriving your body to heal itself. It is when a person sleeps that his immune system is improved, his damaged cells are repaired and his thoughts are processed. The individual’s body will not be refreshed and recharged without adequate sleep. The human body will constantly hunger for recovery if a person is unable to sleep well. During bedtime, forget about the internet and your favorite late night TV shows. You will then realize that it feels so much better to have enough sleep than to spend more time for internet browsing and TV watching.
4.  Regular exercise
The human body consists of skeletal and muscular systems. In other words, our body is originally designed to move. It is not designed for sedentary living. We have to keep moving and live longer. Be sedentary and you’ll die early. It does not take a highly strenuous exercise such as weightlifting to keep your body fit and healthy. You only need to do some brisk walking every morning. Brisk walking can do so much to improve your mood and overall health. It will spare you from the debilitating effects of anxiety and stress. It maximizes the use of your heart and lungs. In fact, this article is just not enough to list all the benefits of regular exercise.
5.  Proper breathing
The human body needs adequate flow of oxygen for it to function well. We all breathe involuntarily. Unfortunately, not many of us know the proper way to breathe. Poor posture, anxiety and stress are some of the factors that interfere with our proper way of breathing. Many of us do not seem to realize the importance of diaphragmatic breathing. Proper breathing requires us to breathe from our diaphragm and not from our chest. Take the time to breathe deeply from the diaphragm to maximize oxygen flow to your brain and other vital organs of the body.
These are some of the SIMPLE ways to achieve optimal health. Following these easy ways will enormously improve one’s tolerance against stress and anxiety. When this happens, we cease to be vulnerable to any other health problems that most people are having these days.

This is a great article. While I don’t want suggest that people with serious mood and anxiety disorders can self medicate by simply living a more healthy lifestyle, this is really great advice. While living a healthy lifestyle can seem like more work, one would be very surprised how much easier life gets when you are healthy. Eating well, staying hydrated, keeping active and sleeping well leaves our bodies and minds much more prepared to deal with the stress of modern life!

Great blog post! I have seen your first four suggestions mentioned a lot in other articles about reducing anxiety. Kudos for emphasizing the importance of not only breathing, but proper breathing. Ever since I took a course in Alexander Technique and body mapping, I have learned a number of physical exercises that help improve my breathing and allow me to calm down more quickly in moments of stress. I highly recommend a combination of Alexander Technique and yoga; they both work well at easing my anxiety.
