Ask anybody what their number what health goal is and you will get many different answers. Some people want to have better looking skin, others want more energy, and others just want to be able to go to sleep at night! The main problem that encapsulates these three issues is that the modern diet in the western world doesn’t appear to be catering for these general health factors.

If we look at our ancestors, they were fit, healthy, and appeared to have a very balanced diet. Now, this may be due to the fact that they ate foods in season, and had to get out and work physical labor to earn a living, but we can learn a lot from our ancestors in this respect. Now, there are health concerns we may have on an individual level, but as a general rule, these three things should be the effective baseline to living a healthy life. Let’s have a look…

Taking The Right Supplements

Many years ago, we would get a lot of the key minerals from our diet, as well as from our water. But the erosion of land and soil over the years has meant that the food and water we consume isn’t as nutrient dense as it once was. The solution? We have to turn to supplements to top off the lack of minerals in our diets.

For minerals that we would have got in abundance from our water years ago, like magnesium, we now have to take a supplement that contains an adequate amount, such as magnesium citrate, or branded ones like AlgaeCal, which has the added benefit of calcium. It’s always best to do your research, and look up the supplements, you can find AlgaeCal reviews on Amazon to see what it’s really like, but the notion of getting all your minerals and vitamins from your diet alone is a notable issue in the modern day.

Remember, your body will tell you if you lack in a certain mineral or vitamin, and you can find the telltale signs by doing a simple search online. But the right supplements need to have pride of place in our bathroom cabinet.

Strength And Resistance Training

Again, you look back to your ancestors, and they were working outdoors, in all types of weather. They never needed to calorie count or restrict their diet in any way. In fact, if they restricted their diet, they simply wouldn’t eat! But when it came to being physically fit, they were outdoors, working in fields, carrying items, and generally being active. We don’t tend to be like that now, so, we need to mimic the same amount of exertion that our ancestors didn’t. And the best approach to do this is to have strength and resistance training sessions on a regular basis. Lots of people look for a running machine, but this doesn’t work as well as strength training when it comes to burning calories.

Avoiding Most Foods!

Now, there is a caveat to this, because the vast majority of foods are now processed. So, if you can have a varied diet in food that isn’t processed, or you can home cook meals yourself, this is what will give you an overall baseline of health. The problem is that we have too much choice now.

So, think back to your ancestors, would they have that much choice? In essence, no. Sweet treats were just that, a treat, and they probably ate a biscuit on a Sunday, and that was it! And they ate whole foods, foods that made them full, not processed foods that were filled with water and preservatives in order to pad them out.

As far as a healthy combination of maintaining a decent baseline, this is the perfect place to start. If you can avoid the trouble signs, in other words, processed food and sugar, you should see a major improvement in your lifestyle, overall health, and well-being.
