Vacations Are Essential to Your Well Being

I am constantly on the go. I rarely have a moment to stop and slow down. As a working mother, my time is always being divvied up between my husband, kids, friends and co-workers. I don’t often have time to decompress and relax, but I know that it is incredibly important to my health. I even believe that vacations are vital for your wellbeing. Vacations and time spent relaxing are essential for the optimal wellbeing of a human being. Time to decompress is some of the important time you could ever spend.

Vacations Are Vital for Wellbeing

Up until about 3 months ago, I hadn’t been on a vacation in about 3 years. I was cranky, felt tired all of the time and generally just didn’t feel well. My husband took notice and booked a vacation for the two of us. We ended up going to one of the most fabulous Las Vegas Resorts I have ever seen in my life! It was gorgeous and exactly what we were looking for. I didn’t do much on the entire trip. I slept, ate, sunbathed out by the pool and saw a couple of shows. It was so relaxing I couldn’t even believe it. My husband commented that I was acting like an entirely different person.

Upon our return home, I noticed a huge difference in everything from my demeanor to my attitude to my health. I felt refreshed and like a brand new person. After this dramatic change, I began to ponder the positive effects of vacations. I do not believe that human beings were meant to be as busy as most are today. We definitely need to take a step back and look at our schedules to see what really needs to be there and what can go. Even though stress can be managed on a daily basis, vacations are a great way to maximize stress reduction. Vacations let you catch up on sleep, do things that you enjoy and be without stress, which are all great for your mental and physical health.

Fortunately, you don’t need some lavish vacation every couple months to gain the beneficial effects. Simply getting away for the weekend, even locally, can help to increase your wellbeing. Relaxing and having fun allows your body to heal in a way that cannot happen when you are overwhelmed and stressed out. Try just getting away for a couple nights every six months or more frequently if possible, to maximize your results. Simply put, go on vacation! Your wellness depends on it.
