The most tragic thing about navigating the sometimes murky waters of dating is not the fact that women usually have to kiss a lot of frogs before they find their prince; it’s viewing it through rose colored glasses and ignoring the glow-in-the-dark warning signs until they wake up one morning with their heart in shreds.
How do you know if you should bear with it or simply walk away? Here are 7 dating red flags that women should never ignore if they value their sanity.
Red flag #1. He’s got a commitment phobia. The sex is mind-blowing and the emotional chemistry awesome but he gets very uncomfortable at the mere mention of the word “commitment.” Movies where couples end up at the altar as the credits roll make him nauseous. He has made no bones about not including you in his future plans. To him, you are just the “here and now.” Too bad that may still be the case 5, 10 years down the line.
Red flag #2. He only contacts you for booty calls. He’s never around during the most important or tragic times of your life. He doesn’t bother to call or visit unless he expects you to be in bed together by the end of the evening. You’re sick of having to define this relationship to your friends because in your mind you know this does not even qualify as a relationship. Stop deluding yourself. He’s not that into you.
Red flag #3. He lives with his mother. He’d rather stay at his parents’ house and let them pay for everything than look for a proper job and support himself. His excuse is that his parents are “too old” to be left on their own. Well, he’s too old to live off his parents’ resources. You don’t deserve a parasite.
Red flag #4. He lets you pay for your dates. He has a job, dresses well, owns all the coolest gadgets on the planet but he can’t be bothered to pick up the tab when you go out on dates. Sure, you can’t put a price on love, but you should stop making it too convenient for him. If he has no money to spend on you, he simply has no business dating you.
Red flag #5. He doesn’t care whether or not you enjoy the sex. In other words, the sex is super bad and that you get more excitement and satisfaction watching naughty scenes of Sex and the City. If his idea of sex is wrestling and manhandling you maybe he should watch the series himself.
Red flag #6. He can’t stand your quirks. He’s your worst critic, never failing to notice even the most minor “uncool” things about you while skipping past all your good points. Being with him somehow makes you feel like you’re auditioning for the American Idol. If this is what he’s like during the early stages of your relationship, imagine how bad it would be when you two are already living under one roof as husband and wife.
Red flag #7. He’s still hung up on his ex. He still keeps the things she’d given him. Her photos are still displayed in his apartment. He can’t stop talking about her. These are scary signs that he’s not over her yet. If they’re still corresponding via text messages or Facebook, that’s a red-hot red flag! That means you’re nothing but a pretty distraction and if the ex so decides to take him back, he won’t have a second thought about leaving you.
