Things You Can Do To Improve Your Posture

There are several reasons why you would want to improve your posture. You might be suffering from pain caused by poor posture, you might want to improve how you look as you sit or walk, or you might feel that you just want a better posture. Here are some things that you can do to improve your posture.

Stand and Sit Straight

This is the core of having a good posture – sitting and standing straight. It isn’t simple as just doing it, but as you sit and stand, you should be thinking about your posture and correcting if you find yourself slumping or slouching. If you actively try to have a good posture, then eventually you will just like many other things.

There are plenty of techniques that you can use to help you achieve a straight sitting or standing position such as imagining there is a piece of string on your head pulling you up towards the ceiling. This can help you to visualize how you should be standing and help to improve your posture.

When sitting you should sit with your head pointing at the ceiling and with square shoulders. You should also sit with your feet on the floor or a footstool at all times. You should also take breaks from sitting so that you can stretch and be able to refresh your posture as even if you have perfect posture, over time, it will start to fade due to sitting for long periods.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best things that you can do to improve your posture. You especially want to train your core muscles as these are what primarily support you and your posture. This means doing things like sit-ups, crunches and other similar exercises.

Exercise can also help to alleviate pain caused by poor posture, but you should start small and consult a doctor before doing anything strenuous as you don’t want to cause any damage to the painful area. Another great way to alleviate pain if it is somewhere like your knees is through insoles such as the ones at biopods.com. These can help to relieve the pressure on your knees and feet and reduce the pain felt there, and without the pain, you might find your posture improves dramatically.

Keep At It

Perfect posture isn’t going to happen overnight. You need to keep at it. You need to stick to an exercise regime and gradually increase the difficulty so that you are always pushing yourself. You need to constantly be thinking about your posture and how to improve it. Over time the more you remind yourself to sit up straight or stand tall, it will become second nature, and you will start to do it without thinking.

This is where you want to eventually end up, and the two will work together in unison. The more you exercise, the easier it will be to maintain a good posture and the more you will be able to do it without constantly reminding yourself.
