There are Good Reasons to Build Better Abs

When you see a ridiculously toned dancer or a bodybuilder with bulging abs, it is easy to ascertain that they are simply showing off.  It is also easy to think that they look absurd.

But, believe it or not, there are good reasons to build better abs.

To build really great abs it’s important, first of all, to understand what your abdominal muscles do.

The abdominal muscles are more than just the muscles that wrap around
your middle section that provide movement and support to the trunk.
Powerful and toned abs actually provide the postural support and balance that keeps a ballerina on her toes in a twirling pirouette. Strong abs play a role in protecting a boxer’s internal organs react with power to an opponent’s attack. The abdominal muscles contribute to the breathing process, especially exhalation.  The abs help force air out of the lungs by depressing the thorax. Creating an effect similar to a back support belt, your lower back is supported when you lift something heavy or carry books around in your backpack.

The abs work together with the back muscles to maintain correct posture and stabilize the spine. More structurally, the abdominal muscles contribute significantly to a healthy back. Along with the back muscles and spine, they provide support for the whole body, and if they are weak then they will pose a problem for any kind of strenuous activity.

The abdominal muscles are a group of 6 muscles with essentially different jobs. That means doing a variety of exercises will result in strong, healthy abs.

You can have the most toned, flat and muscular stomach, but it will not show if there is a layer of fat over them. To get killer abs, you need to do two things: lose fat and build muscle. You get this by dieting and exercising daily. So, by combining abdominal strength training with cardiovascular exercise that burns fat, and you’ll soon have the abs of your dreams.

The best exercises for the abs are ones that force your entire core to go into overdrive to support your spine. Some exercises that do this are squats and dead-lifts, which train your entire core to work together to do what it is designed to do.
Your abdominal muscles are an essential part of your core strength.
