Completion – Wrapping It All Up

Completion is important in our lives.  We need that sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing something.  Leaving things uncompleted also acts like an energy drain.  Somewhere in the back of our minds is that thought, “Someday I will finish…”

Completing things is a tremendous boost to our sense of self-worth.  We are proud of our accomplishments.  And we also learn what we are capable of in the future.  We easily take on similar challenges and often move up to bigger challenges.

It is okay to reward ourselves for completions.  Choosing what the reward will be ahead of time helps us get through times when we are discouraged and do not want to do our work.  The reward serves as a way of saying to us, “Well done!”

Coming to completion may also be deciding not to go any further on a project.  That background thought, “Someday I will finish that…” needs to become “I am not going to finish that…” and then getting rid of it.  We put closure to that project, end the
energy drain, and open ourselves up to something more fulfilling.  Rewards are okay here, too, because deciding to give up on something for good can be as difficult as finishing it.

Completions are to be celebrated.  It is uniquely human to take on projects and follow them through to completion.

Completion can be difficult.  We put a lot of work and love into a project and then, when it is finished; we do not want to let go.  It is perfectly normal.  Artists have a big problem with this.  It is also necassary for us to move on to other things.  We cannot stay tied to all of them.

For some of us, the difficulty is in coming to completion.  We get stalled and do not want to continue.  We sometimes run out of energy.  Or we have taken on too many things in the first place.  For us, we are more than happy to let go if we can only come to
completion.  We need to call in help.  We are not going to do it ourselves.

Getting to completion on everything we take on and letting go of it in order to move on is necessary for our own health.  Those incomplete projects weigh on our subconscious and steal our psychic energy.  If we do not think we are going to actually finish something, we need to let it go and not keep it on our “someday” list.

This is all part of our detachment work.  As we detach from the physical things in life, we detach form our completed projects.  We remember that the important part was the process.

Finally, we need to know when to call in help for completion.  Life can be overwhelming.  We need to do whatever we can to help each other through it.
