Do You Need Liposuction?

Have you wondered where there is liposuction and skin tightening near me? Before addressing what the perfect age for having liposuction is, it is wise to consider whether liposuction is necessary. Doctors typically recommend a healthy lifestyle change, including diet and exercise, to change one’s physique. Unfortunately, this is not always easy, or even possible, for some people. Liposuction is the most efficient means of achieving the look that many people want. One great thing about liposuction is how minimally invasive it is. Liposuction only requires small incisions from which the excess fat deposits are drawn. Another benefit is that liposuction can target almost any part of the body, including buttocks, hips, abdomen, face, and thighs.

General Guidelines

Liposuction has a few guidelines that most providers adhere to. First, patients should be in good physical and emotional health and within 30% of their ideal body weight. Patients should not smoke and should have good muscle tone as well as firm and elastic skin. Patients should have already tried exercise and diet and should understand the realistic outcome of their liposuction.

How is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction is usually an outpatient surgery that is performed at a surgeon’s office procedure room or in an outpatient surgery center.  First, the surgeon will mark off the areas for surgery. Anesthesia is then administered to the patient to ensure comfort and safety. Tiny incisions will then be made and a skinny, hollow tube called a cannula will be inserted to extract excess fat. After the procedure is completed, the incisions will be closed and the area bandaged. The whole procedure usually takes between two and four hours, and the patient usually goes home the same day.

The Perfect Age For Liposuction

Unfortunately, there is no one right answer for this question. Younger patients can often do better with liposuction because their skin is more elastic and can shrink after the excess fat is removed. More mature patients may not have enough elasticity in their skin for it to shrink as easily. Other than this consideration, there is no right or wrong age to have liposuction. When meeting with a surgeon, the doctor should be able to look at your specific case and determine whether liposuction is right for you.

For example, teenagers who still have a high metabolism may be advised to try dieting and exercising more before they undergo cosmetic surgery. Women who have recently given birth may be encouraged to have a tummy tuck instead of liposuction. Different circumstances require different solutions. Always talk to your doctor about all of the options before making a decision.

Preparing For Liposuction

For patients who decide that liposuction is right for them, it is important to follow pre-operative instructions. Bloodwork will need to be done before the surgery date. In addition, doctors usually require patients to stop taking medications and supplements that may increase the chances of bleeding. Smokers are usually advised to stop smoking at least a month before the surgery.

There is no perfect age for liposuction. Talk to your doctor about whether liposuction might be a good fit for you now.
