While June is, in fact, Men’s Health Month, it’s an important conversation that should not be restricted to one month out of the year — increasing awareness of preventable health problems and encouraging early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys is an important topic year-round.
Nursing@Georgetown recently released this infographic that lays out the state of men’s health in the U.S. and also offers ways in which we can all help improve it. And the statistics are pretty staggering:
- Seven million American men have not attended a physician’s appointment in more than 10 years.
Two-thirds of men would not seek a health care professional if they were experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath, two early warning sings of a heart attack.
Check out the infographic below, which offers a map of when and how often men should be tested for certain health issues. Remember, however, that this is not meant to replace the guidance of a health care professional.
